Man beats up wife at church service

A MAN from Gombakomba Village in Zimunya went berserk and hit his wife with a brick on the head at a church service.
Appearing before Mrs Sekai Chiundura, Israel Chiwanga — who pleaded guilty to assaulting Raviro Matonga — said he was trying to discipline his stubborn wife.
“I was angry, Your Worship, and I was just disciplining her because she was being stubborn.”

Mrs Chiundura fined him $50 or 30 days in jail for committing the crime saying he should be able to control his anger. Two months were set aside on condition that he does not commit the same offence in the next five years.

The court heard that on September 1, 2014 Chiwanga assaulted his wife at an all-night prayer at Guta Ra Jehovah Church in Zimunya at around 7pm.

This was after Chiwanga had followed her at church and ordered her to go back home.
Raviro refused saying she would leave the following day after church.

This did not go down well with Chiwanga who then attacked her with fists before picking up a brick and hit her on the head. Fidelis Chinoenda who was also at the church came to the rescue.

Matonga sustained injuries on the head and the matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.
