A CHIKANGA man who lured a 14-year-old girl to his house and bedded her for five days has been arraigned before the courts.
Trust Nyandoro(27) was convicted on his own guilty plea to the charges of having sexual intercourse with a young person as defined in Section 70 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.
He appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura.
Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.
Circumstances were that Nyandoro met the minor who was coming from school on January 28 and proposed love to her. He promised to pay school fees for her after she had revealed that she was a Form 2 student.
“He then invited her to his Chikanga home where they stayed as husband and wife from January 28 to February 2 having consensual sexual intercourse.
“On February 3, 2016 the minor’s parents received a tip-off concerning the whereabouts of their missing daughter. The parents later collected heir child from Hobhouse police base and a police report was made which led to Nyandoro’s arrest,’ said Mr Karombe.
In defence, Nyandoro said when he met the minor she had been chased away from home by her parents.
“According to her she had been chased away from home and had nowhere to go so I did the most appropriate action to offer her accommodation without interrupting her education.
“When I slept with her, she was consented. Its not like I raped her or something, there should be no fuss over it,” he said.
Mrs Chiundura explained to him that the reason why he was arrested was because he had sexual intercourse with the minor and not raped her as he thought.
Said Mrs Chiundura; “Because she was consenting, that is the reason why you are not being charged with rape.”
He was remanded to February 15 for sentencing.
