IF I canat have you, I must eat you!

That must have raced through the mind of a Gweru man who lost his cool and bit off his girlfriendas nipple after seeing her in the arms of another man.

The man, Selemani Asili (23) of Mkoba 3 was dragged to court by his ex-girlfriend Loveness Zhou (32) ofA Mkoba 4 facing charges of assault.

He pleaded guilty before Gweru magistrate Tayengwa Chibanda.

He was sentenced to eight months in prison. Five months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Passing his sentence, Tayengwa bemoaned the rise in assault and domestic violence saying a lot of women were suffering at the hands of men.

a?It is very worrying that a lot of men think that beating up their girlfriends will solve their problems. As her boyfriend, you were supposed to protect her but you decided to beat her up and you got her badly injured,a? said Chibanda.

The magistrate was puzzled because Asili bit a woman 10 years his senior.

a?It is so sad that you assaulted someone 10 years your senior, if she didnat do what you wanted why didnat you break up with her?a? he added.

Circumstances surrounding the matter are that on March 25, Asili and Zhou were drinking beer at Mupambadzire Night Club in Mkoba 6.

They drank until 1am when Asilias cousin, Kudakwashe Nyoni arrived and asked Zhou to break up with Asili as she was too old for him.

This did not go down well with Zhou who then left the two and proceeded to another patron and started dancing with him.

Asili was offended by Zhouas actions and he took an empty bottle and hit her on the right eye.

He pushed her down and bit off her left breast nipple. Zhou was ferried to hospital and the matter was reported to the police.
