A PLUMTREE woman has dragged her son to court after he assaulted her for seeking a protection order against him. Early last month a magistrate’s court ordered Muchadura Musara, 32, to stay away from his mother Hleziphi Ndlovu, 67. This was after the woman had complained that her son was continuously insulting and beating her up.
A defiant Musara went to his mother’s house on May 25 and ordered her to withdraw the protection order.
Prosecutors say when the old woman refused to budge, Musara got angry and started slapping and punching her.
“Musara went to the complainant’s house, which was against a court order that was issued to him on May 5, forbidding him from going there. While he was there he assaulted and insulted the complainant thereby contravening the court order,” said Medica Tshuma, prosecuting.
He said when Ndlovu called out for her daughter, Sharon, to come to her aid, Musara thrashed her also.
The two women had to flee, leaving Musara at the house and made a report to the police.
Musara pleaded for the court’s leniency and asked for forgiveness from his mother saying he was struggling to make ends meet.
“Your worship, I am in a desperate situation and this is what forced me to be harsh on my mother. I am not working and I am finding it difficult to make ends meet,” he said.
“At least when I was living with my mother my sister would bring food but now it is a different story altogether. I also grew jealous after I learnt that my sister had moved in with my mother. I am really sorry about what I did and I just wish that my mother would take me back into the house.”
Plumtree magistrate, Gideon Ruvetsa ordered Musara to pay a $100 fine or spend two months in prison in default.
He advised him to behave like a grown up man and sustain himself.
“Gone are the days when your mother was supposed to be spoon feeding you. A man of your age should be supporting his mother and not the other way round,” said Ruvetsa.
