AN UNQUENCHABLE desire for sex led a Mutare man to rape a juvenile near a police roadblock in broad daylight.
Blessing Newengo (34) of NatView Park, Chikanga 3, was arrested last week for raping a 15-year-old juvenile. The juvenile was coming from Sakubva Market, going home around 3pm when she met Newengo near Sakubva 1 High School. Newengo is said to have proposed love to the girl and was turned down. He grabbed the girl and pulled her into a nearby bush and raped her.
She screamed and alerted police officers who were at a roadblock a few metres away. Police officers rushed to investigate and Newengo was caught pants down and was arrested. The juvenile was taken to Mutare Provincial Hospital for medical examination.
Manicaland provincial policed spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri confirmed the incident and said investigations were in progress.
“We urge parents to alert their children on the possibility of being raped and that they should walk in numbers to avoid such cases,” said Insp Chishiri.
