A 39-year-old man from Sally Mugabe Heights in Harare has died after his wife allegedly stabbed him during an argument over the price of a gas cooker.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, and Liberty Takaza was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The argument started when Liberty bought a gas cooker for US$5, which was one dollar more than what his wife, Prisca Takaza, had budgeted. She wanted him to buy a similar cooker for US$4 from another shop.
According to the police, Liberty returned home around 12:25 AM on Thursday, visibly drunk. Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, the deputy police spokesperson for Harare, stated, “The now deceased arrived home and was drunk. He had bought a gas cooker top for US5. This did not go down well with the accused person who indicated that he should have bought the same top at US$4.”
The couple began to argue while in bed, with Liberty accusing Prisca of various issues. The argument escalated, and during a physical confrontation, Liberty reportedly choked Prisca.
“He started assaulting the accused person by choking her and they both fell to the floor near a dish full of kitchen utensils.
“The accused person took a kitchen knife and stabbed him once on the right side of the chest and once in the right shoulder,” Mapisa added.
Prisca, 29, has been arrested and is facing murder charges. (H-Metro)
