ASSAULTING a man whom he suspected of having a relationship with his wife earned a Mutare man $200 fine after he was found guilty of committing the offence.
Adonia Machakaire (35) appeared before Mrs Sekai Chiundura, pleading guilty to assault charges as defined in Section 89 of the Criminal Law, (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.
It was the State’s case led by Mr Fletcher Karombe that Machakaire assaulted Clemence Mupeti following an infidelity misunderstanding.
“Mupeti was drinking beer outside Tandarai Bar at Machikichori Shopping Centre in Chikanga when Machakaire approached him accusing him of cheating with his wife.
“Machakaire then dragged the complainant to his house, but along the way he took an empty beer bottle which Mupeti was holding and struck him once on the head. He proceeded to assault him, resulting in the complainant sustaining injuries,” he said.
Asked on why he had acted in that manner, Machakaire pleaded for leniency.
“I acted out of anger after I saw him in the company of my wife.
“I was suspecting that my wife is cheating on me. However, I erred, Your Worship,” he said.
Mrs Chiundura ordered him to pay $200 or risk four months imprisonment.
She advised him to exercise self control.
