The 34-year-old Chitungwiza man, who smashed doors and windowpanes to get into his girlfriend’s room, was fined $100 (or 50 days) after he was convicted of malicious damage to property belonging to his girlfriend’s landlady. Stewart Sekete of Zengeza 3, destroyed two windowpanes and broke two doors to gain entry into his girlfriend Ketty Mukodzani’s room around 11pm.

He suspected she was cheating on him. Ms Mukodzani had refused to let him inside her room. Sekete pleaded guilty when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mrs Yeukai Chigodora. Sekete was also ordered to repay his girlfriend the $70 he took from her after breaking into her room. The prosecutor Mr Norman Koropi proved that on September 30 this year at around 11pm, Sekete went to Ms Mukodzani’s house and knocked on her door several times but the latter did not respond fearing that he would cause trouble as he was often violent when drunk.

However, Sekete suspected that she was cheating on him with another man. He then used an unknown object to break two windowpanes so that he could get inside the roo,m but he failed. He decided to gain entry through the front of the house by breaking down two doors. When he gained entry into the room, he took away his girlfriend’s cellphone and $70 cash. Though she later recovered her cellphone, she did not get the money back. The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.
