A NYANGA man broke a lock and burst into a room where his cousin was sleeping, put on a condom and sexually abused her while their relatives were asleep.
He has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for raping the 12-year-old girl.One day, the juvenile refused to sleep alone and told her grandmother that she was afraid of the repeated abuses by her cousin.
The accused person was arrested and pleaded not guilty when he appeared before regional magistrate Mathakile Msipa, who convicted him after a full trial. The State, represented by Cuthbert Bosha, said the accused man used to break a locked door to gain access into the room the victim was sleeping in.“Complainant is a cousin of the accused person. On the date unknown to the prosecutor but in the year 2024 at around 5 am and at Mutetwa Village Chief Saunyama, complainant was asleep in her room and the accused person forcibly broke the door and gained entrance using an unknown object.“Accused then put on a condom and advised the complainant that he wanted to be intimate with her and the complainant refused.
“Accused entered into the blankets and proceeded to sexually abuse the complainant.
“The matter came to light the day the complainant refused to let her stepmother sleep alone in her room stating that the accused person has got a tendency of coming to her room and sexually abusing her.Complainant’s stepmother then advised the father of the complainant about the matter. The father questioned the complainant and she told her everything about the abuse. “Complainant’s father made a report at ZRP Nyamaropa.”
