In a stark betrayal of neighbourly trust, a 25-year-old man from Combo Village 10 in Shangani, Matabeleland South Province, has appeared in court for allegedly robbing his female neighbour and shocking her with an electric shocker.
Luckyboy Ncube appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Matthew Mutiro, facing one count of robbery.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to February 18 for continuation of the trial.
The complainant, Elitha Ncube, told the court that she knew the accused very well, as he and her father live next door. She said she often referred to him as “uncle.”
Elitha told the court that on March 9, 2024, she arrived home from the shops. While changing her clothes, she noticed several people entering her bedroom carrying knives.
“They struck and stabbed me with a knife, causing me to fall to the ground. After that, they shocked me with an electric shocker,” Elitha said.
She said she asked Ncube what he wanted, and he demanded money.
“Luckily, my husband entered the house and fought them off. I was then taken to the hospital. I believe that if he hadn’t come when he did, I could have died,” a sobbing Elitha said.
The complainant’s husband told the court that while fighting with Ncube and the others, they struck him with a knife in the chest, and he also lost a tooth during the fight.
It is alleged that on the day in question, at around 2am, Ncube, in the company of four others who are still at large, entered Elitha’s bedroom armed with machetes and an electric shocker.
The court heard that while inside the complainant’s bedroom, they assaulted her with machetes, demanding cash, and then shocked her with the electric shocker.
They then took US$180 from her bedroom and left. A police report was made, leading to Ncube’s arrest.
