Man in court for sodomising juvenile

Weekender Correspondent
A NYANGA man appeared in court last week for allegedly sodomising his aunt’s 17-year-old domestic worker in Penhalonga. John Makuvaza (47), pleaded not guilty to the aggravated indecent assault charges he was facing when he appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura. The court heard that Makuwaza, who stays in Mapara Village under Chief Saunyama in Nyanga visited his ill aunt in Penhalonga to check on her condition.

When they went to bed, Makuwaza and the complainant shared a room, though Makuwaza slept on the bed, while the complainant slept on the floor.
At around midnight, Makuwaza joined the complainant and insisted that they both sleep on the floor as it was very hot. He went on to persuade the complainant to remove his pair of shorts and he complied.

Around 3am, Makuvaza sexually abused the complainant once before instructing him not to tell anyone about it.
The matter, however, came to light later that morning when Makuvaza left for the fields.
The complainant told his employer, Mrs Kettie Zviuya Nyangani about the sodomy and she immediately alerted other villagers who then effected a citizen’s arrest and made a police report.

Makuvaza was expected in court yesterday (Thursday).
Mr Donald Mudadirwa prosecuted.
