A MAN, who bought a Toyota GD6 and a house in just one week, was betrayed by a member of his inner circle who contacted the police after he became concerned about the source of the cash his colleague was splashing.
Ishmael Shayanewako spent the weekend in custody after he failed to explain his shopping spree and the source of the ZAR198 800 police recovered from his car.
Last week, detectives from CID Chitungwiza received information that Shayanewako was on a spending spree.
Acting on the tip-off, the police tracked him down and arrested him driving his Toyota Hilux GD6 vehicle.
Shayanewako was escorted to CID Chitungwiza in his vehicle where a search was conducted and a purse containing ZAR 198 800 was recovered. Further investigations revealed that he had also recently purchased a five-roomed house situated at number 4226 Manyame Park, Chitungwiza, for US$27 000 from one Wadzanai Dube.
Shayanewako could not give a satisfactory explanation regarding the source of his funds and investigations further revealed that the cash and the property recovered could be proceeds of crime.
The crimes are not revealed in the State’s papers.
Shayanewako was released on US$500 bail and was ordered to reside at his address until the matter is finalised.
He was ordered not to sell the house in question until the matter is resolved.
Magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa ordered the State to write to the Chitungwiza Municipality to ensure that the house is not sold.
