A 21-year-old man was last Wednesday arraigned before the courts for allegedly raping his 15-year-old girlfriend he had offered a lift from Mbare Musika. Blessing Mwanza of No. 2879 Glen Norah A appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe charged with rape. Mwanza was remanded in custody to May 22.

Mr Mahwe advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that on January 22 this year, around 11am, the girl asked Mwanza to pick her up from Mbare Musika after arriving from her rural home.

The court heard that on arrival Mwanza went with the girl to a garage in Willowvale and then asked the girl to accompany him home.

Allegations are that when they arrived at his house the girl discovered that there was no one else there but Mwanza allegedly told her that his uncle would arrive soon.

It is the State’s case that when they got in the house, the girl sat on a small chair in the bedroom but Mwanza pulled her to the bed.

The court heard that he then asked her to be intimate with her, but she refused.

Mwanza then held the girl’s hands and raped her once, it is alleged.

Mr Mutizirwa further alleged that the girl screamed for help but no one heard her.

It is alleged that after he had raped the girl he escorted her to her sister’s house in Chitungwiza around 7pm.

The girl told her sister what had transpired and the matter was reported to the police.
