AN 18-year-old man from Epworth, who was convicted of raping a 10-year-old girl, has been slapped with a 10-year jail term.
The rapist and the 10-year-old girl are neighbours.
On the 5th of July this year, the accused person’s father borrowed a pen from the complainant who was alone at home with her younger sister.
Later, the convict called the complainant to his house purporting that he wanted to give her the pen.
When the complainant got to the door, the accused person dragged her into the house, slapped her twice in the face, and threatened to kill her if she made any noise.
He tripped her to the floor before raping her. The matter came to light when the complainant’s mother returned home and followed the complainant to the accused person’s home where she found the rapist putting on his trousers while the complainant lay half naked on the floor.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old man from Bulawayo who lured a desperate job seeker through the WhatsApp platform and raped her when they met, has been handed a 20-year jail term.
The court heard that sometime in March this year, the 17-year-old girl sent a message looking for a job on a WhatsApp group.
On the 1st of May, she received a message from the convict purporting that his grandmother in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, needed a house helper. The complainant proceeded to Bulawayo from Plumtree on the 5th of May where she met the rapist who was in the company of two friends.
The accused person took the complainant to a beer garden before taking her to Mpopoma, where he resided, promising to take her to Cowdray Park the following morning.
When the complainant went to sleep, the accused person got into the room and raped her three times.
