A JILTED Harare man, who was denied a kiss by his former lover and sexually assaulted her, has been jailed for 10 years.
Tafadzwa Dhliwayo (26) was arraigned before Chinhoyi magistrate, Ignatius Mugova, charged with rape.
The complainant is a 21-year-old student with a local university.
The two were lovers, the court heard.
Dhliwayo was initially slapped with a 15-year jail term before five years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
He will serve an effective 10 years behind bars.
Prosecuting, Nyasha Sibesha, proved that on May 30, 2019, Dhliwayo visited the student to try and resolve their love issues.
The two were left in the room by her friends to discuss their challenges.
She told him that she was no longer interested in the relationship.
Dhliwayo then asked for a kiss but she refused.
Angered by the refusal, he pushed her onto the bed and raped her once.
After the act, Dhliwayo left for Harare.
On the same day, the victim disclosed the matter to her friend, who advised her not to think about it, since they were about to write their exams.
In December 2019, church elders tipped her mother about the issue after they found out she was pregnant.
She narrated her ordeal.
A complaint was lodged at Chitungwiza Police Station, who later referred it to Chinhoyi Central Police Station.
The student was referred to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for medical examinations.
