A 40 –YEAR-OLD man was jailed for 15 years by the Chinhoyi Magistrate Court for raping a 10-year-old girl.
The man cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, who is his neighbour.
He asked the child for sexual intercourse, but she refused, he then gave her bubble gums before dragging her into a bushy area and raping her.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said the offender and the complainant were herding cattle at a dam site on 12 October when the offender asked the complainant to have sexual intercourse with him but she refused.
He gave the minor bubble gums before he dragged her to a bushy area where he raped her. The complainant screamed and the offender got up and ran away. The complainant narrated her ordeal to her parents who filed a police report. The offender was subsequently arrested.
