A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a 10-year-old Grade 2 pupil.
The rapist, from Arshyre Farm, Banket, appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court where he was convicted of the crime.
The State proved that the accused and the complainant were herding cattle at a dam site on October 12 this year.
The State heard that the man asked the complainant to have sexual intercourse with him but she refused.
He gave the minor bubble gums before he dragged her into a bushy area where he raped her.
The complainant narrated her ordeal to her parents who filed a police report.
The tapist was subsequently arrested.
