THE City of Harare has started shaking up its two units of Harare Municipal Police and the traffic section.
The transfers come at a time when the City Council has recorded an increase in reports of unscrupulous elements masquerading as municipal officers, who are soliciting bribes.
There have also been reports of unscrupulous elements within the municipal cops.
The transfers also come at a time in which investigations were instituted into a case of a traffic cop, whose video of bashing a motorist, made waves on social media last week.
Mayor Jacob Mafume said the Council would review how traffic cops operate within the city.
Council spokesperson, Stanley Gama, said the changes are designed to enhance efficiency and respond to public concerns that are being raised on a daily basis.
He emphasised that the City of Harare does not condone corruption at all and urged residents to report any suspicious transgressions by council officials.
“We wish to inform residents that we are in the process of transferring 14 Sergeants, 30 Parking Supervisors, and 30 Patrolmen in a bid to shake up the situation within the two units of Harare Municipal Police and the Traffic section,” he said.
“We hope these changes will result in better service. Residents are urged to report to the City Council if they feel unfairly treated by any employee of the City of Harare.”
