Man jailed 30 months for killing timber ‘thief’

A GWANDA man who fatally assaulted a man for allegedly stealing his friend’s timber, has been senteced to 30 months imprisonment.

Sizanani Ndlovu (32) of Mzimuni was convicted on his own plea of guilty to culpable homicide by Gwanda regional magistrate, Mr Mark Dzira.

Ndlovu’s two accomplices are on the run.

He was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment of which six months were suspended on condition that he does not within the next five years commit a similar offence.

The remaining 24 months were suspended on condition that he performs 840 hours of community service at Mzimuni Clinic.

In mitigation, Ndlovu told the court that it was not his intention to cause the death of Mr Thokozani Nyathi.

He begged the court to be lenient as he is a widower looking after his child.

Prosecuting, Mr Mncedisi Dube said Ndlovu and his accomplices committed the offence on October 19 in 2009.
