A Chitungwiza man was recently sentenced to an effective two-month jail term for assaulting his father with an iron bar after accusing him of stealing his money.

Richard Mukuviri (31) was convicted of assaulting his father Rodrick Mukuviri by Chitungwiza magistrate Mrs Winfilder Tiatara after a full trial.

He was facing physical abuse charges.

Mrs Tiatara initially sentenced him to 90 days in prison before suspending 30 days on condition of good behaviour.

The State led by Mr Norman Koropi proved that on March 25, Richard entered his father’s bedroom and alleged that he had stolen his cash.

A misunderstanding arose and Mukuviri hit his father with an iron bar on the head and he sustained a swollen head.

During the trial, Rodrick said his son used to take drugs which causes him to behave wildly most of the times.

After the incident, the father reported the matter to the police leading to his son’s arrest.
