A -21-year-old Mufakose man has been jailed 20 years after he was found guilty of raping his friend’s two year old daughter.

In his ruling, Harare regional magistrate Mr Noel Mupeiwa, said the State managed to prove a prima facie case against John Nzondo.

He also said there was overwhelming evidence surrounding the matter.

The State represented by Ms Cecilia Mashingaidze proved that on January 7, 2026, Nzondo visited the complainant’s parents where he sat in the same room with the minor and her stepbrother.

The minor’s mother was in kitchen cooking when she heard the child screaming and she rushed to check on her but when she arrived Nzondo had fled from the scene.

The court heard the toddler’s mother suspected that Nzondo had done something to the minor and reported the matter to the police.

The court heard that the toddler was interviewed but did not divulge anything and was later referred to hospital for medical examination.

After examination it was discovered that the toddler was sexually abused .

The minor’s step brother was interviewed at police station and he stated that Nzondo had sexual abused the complainant.
