A Rusape man who was caught red handed raping his underage girlfriend in the bush was on Monday sentenced to 15 years in prison. Collins Mudzingwa (24) of Vengere who was not represented and was denying the offence will however serve 12 effective years after Rusape regional magistrate Mr Livengstone Chipadza suspended 3 years. Rusape Area prosecutor Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira told the court that Mudzingwa waylaid his 13 year old girlfriend into a bush area close to the Flyover along Wedza Highway where he raped her.
The State’s case is that on August 1, 2015 around 1600hrs the complainant was on her way to church when she met Mudzingwa. He asked the complainant to accompany him to his residence but she resfused .The accused person then carried the girl into a bush.
Mudzingwa asked for sex with the girl but she refused.
He promised to take the girl home as his wife once he had sexual intercourse with her. He procceded to rape the complainant who was screaming.
“The screaming of the girl caught the attention of Tinashe Muzengairi who was walking on a foot path near where the the accused and the girl where.
Muzengairi immediately rushed to the scene and saw Mudzingwa having sexual intercourse with the girl,’’ said Mr Mutyasiri.
Police were called and they immediately attended the scene and arrested Mudzingwa.
