GOSPEL songstress, Agatha Murudzwa made a sensational return to the music fraternity by releasing an eight-track chart-buster album titled, Grace Period, which she officially launched at a colourful ceremony in Rusape last Saturday. Murudzwa revealed, in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the show, that all the songs on the album were inspired by her life experiences as a wife and mother.
Agatha, who can be described as a strong-willed woman, endured single motherhood for years in the sprawling suburb of Dangamvura before she got married to Pastor Gwinyai Ndembera, went on to bear a child named Tadairwa Victoria.
She hogged the limelight in the media a few years ago after she was accused of “stealing” Ndembera from a Chipinge woman, Christine Maphosa whom the latter was once married to.
The allegations were met with mixed feelings but Agatha could not waver just when the society thought she would dump her music career and disappear from the social radar.
On Saturday, at Max Village, Agatha took the opportunity to present songs from her eighth album which are pregnanted with heartening messages.
Guest artistes who include the first family of gospel music, Charles and Olivia Charamba and Blessing Shumba put up top drawer performances in front of hundreds of revellers who attended the album launch.
Pastor Tinashe Murigo, Rusape-based gospel musician Peter Masuka also attended the launch which ran up to 9 pm.
Although power cuts nearly spoiled their acts, the launch lived up to billing.
Agatha belted a blend of new and old songs.
Among them, potential hit Ndivanani avo off her new album.
“On Ndivanani avo, I encourage people to be steadfast during times of discouragement, trials and tribulations.
“We should thank God in all circumstances. That’s something I did and I always do.
“Tiri munyasha is a plea to people to stop engaging in sinning especially knowingly but seek the face of God,” she said.
On the track, Hold on, Murudzwa, who was reluctant to reveal her real age, said people should be patient and understand God’s times when things go wrong in their lives.
“God’s love is unwavering. The song was inspired by Roman 8-38 to 39 which says, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
She dedicates the song Amai to all single mothers for enduring the hurdles and burdens of single parenting.
Other songs on the album are Amai, Ndakakotswa, Hossana and Baba vedu.
