A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of raping an elderly woman aged 61.
The incident occurred on April 9, 2025 when the offender, Thembinkosi Ncube, approached the home of a 61-year-old woman in Mphoengs at approximately 20:00 hours.
In a press statement issued by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe today, it was reported that the offender gained entry into the victim’s residence through a window. The victim woke up and found the offender inside her home.
“He forcibly undressed her, ordered her to lie down, and raped her. During the incident, the offender threatened to harm the victim if she reported the offence. After the act, the offender dressed and exited the residence through the same window, leaving the victim traumatised,” the statement said.
“Following the incident, the victim reported the matter to the police, who responded promptly. Investigations led to the arrest of the offender.”
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe strongly condemned the act, stating that rape is a grave violation of human rights and dignity, while urging communities to stand against sexual violence, support survivors, and report such crimes promptly to the police.
Plumtree Magistrate Court sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
