A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to an effective two years in prison for stabbing his neighbour during a dispute in Filabusi.
Engus Tsumbeni was convicted of attempted murder by Gwanda regional magistrate Mrs Sithembiso Ndebele after pleading not guilty to the charge.
He was sentenced to three years imprisonment, with one year suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within the next five years.
Prosecuting, Mr Ngonidzashe Shumba said the incident occurred on November 18, 2025.
“On the 18 November 2025, at around 8PM, the victim and the accused were on their way home from Mdawini, Compound, Kavango Mine, Filabusi where they were drinking beer.
The accused person produced an identified knife, he stabbed the victim on both hands, once on the stomach and once on the thigh, for no apparent reason.
“The victim was taken to Z.R.P Filabusi where he reported the matter before being referred to Filabusi District Hospital for treatment and medical report compilation,” he said.
The court heard that the victim, Mr Morebrain Manyange, sustained multiple injuries during the attack.
