A 25-year-old man is on the run after allegedly murdering his father in-law following a domestic violence case in Rockdale.
Brian Chikwenjere had a misunderstanding with his father in-law, Aaron Kwenda after assaulting his daughter, Shalome Kwenda.
Brian was reported to have physically assaulted his wife Shalome, and she ran away. Aaron and Brian exchanged harsh words and fought at around 8pm.
Aaron teamed up with his friend Joseph Gwarada, 46, in fighting Brian.
Brian picked a log from the fire, struck Aaron once on his forehead and he fell to the ground and died.
He was 48. Upon seeing his father-in-law on the ground, Brian placed the log beside him and ran off into the darkness.
Joseph sustained a small cut on the nose, swollen hands and was feeling pain on his ribs. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.
‘‘Police are investigating a murder case involving in-laws at Rockdale in Epworth,’’ said Insp Chakanza.
‘‘The deceased narrated to his friend on how angry he was with the accused since he was in a habit of physically and verbally abusing his daughter.
‘‘The friend asked the accused about the whereabouts of his wife.
‘‘One of the tenants at the house indicated that the accused person’s wife ran away after being thoroughly beaten by the accused. This did not go down well with the now deceased, who went after the accused who was now in the tuck shop, grabbed his collar and pulled him outside the tuck-shop.
‘‘A fight ensued and that is when the friend intervened and tried to restrain the accused who was now assaulting the now deceased all over the body using clenched fists. The accused person then went behind the tuck-shop, grabbed a log from the fire and started assaulting the friend on his head.
‘‘The deceased upon realising this, tried to restrain the accused who then turned and struck him once on his forehead with the log and he fell to the ground.
‘‘The deceased’s body was ferried to Chitungwiza Hospital Mortuary for postmortem,’’said Insp Chakanza.
