A man from Chief Nyajena in Masvingo allegedly fatally struck his father in-law with a log for asking him why he was failing to provide for his family, police have confirmed.
Perfect Chitsenga (29) of Mazarire Village under Chief Nyajena picked a stone and struck Marinda Mutubuki (76) of Greenhills Village under Chief Chikwanda, on the forehead leaving him bleeding. Undeterred, Chitsenga further took a log from a granary and struck his father-in-law once on the chest leading to Mutubuki’s death on the spot. Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula said the incident happened last Monday.
“We have received a report of murder involving a son in-law who killed his father-in-law. The suspect was arrested and is assisting with investigations. He will soon appear in court facing a charge of murder,” said Insp Mazula.
Insp Mazula said the body of Mutubuki was taken to Masvingo General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem. She said on the day in question, Chitsenga was drinking beer with his father-in-law at Mazarire Business Centre when a misunderstanding ensued over the upkeep of the family.
“At around 8pm, the two left the business centre for home. While on their way home, Mutubuki accused Chitsenga of failing to take care of his wife (Mutubuki’s daughter) and children.
“This did not go down well with Chitsenga who picked a stone and struck Mutubuki on the forehead,” she said.
On reaching his homestead while still bleeding, Mutubuki told his unidentified wife about the dispute he had with his son-in-law.
This, she said, further infuriated Chitsenga who became violent and threatened to kill Mutubuki. The emotionally charged Chitsenga then pulled a log from a granary which he used to strike his father-in-law on the chest.
Mutubuki fell down and died on the spot. A report was made leading to Chitsenga’s arrest. -@walterbmswazie3
