Man kills father over loud music

Fungai Lupande Harare Bureau
A 25-YEAR-OLD man from Dzivarasekwa, Harare, appeared in court last week accused of fatally striking his father on the head with a brick and a pot after an altercation over loud music blaring from a car radio. Godfrey Muriranyama appeared before Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe charged with murder and was remanded in custody to May 13.
He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Farai Gatsi alleged that on April 25, a neighbour left his car under the care of Muriranyama and his father.
Muriranyama decided to play loud music on the car radio, prompting his father to tell him to tone things down, it is alleged.

The court heard that this irked Muriranyama, who struck his father on the head with a brick. It is further alleged that Muriranyama also hit his father several times with a pot and a 110mm thick PVC pipe.

Muriranyama, it is alleged, told their neighbours what had happened and they accompanied him to render assistance to the injured man.
However, on returning he allegedly struck his father once more with a brick.

The father bled profusely and sustained severe head injuries leading to his death two hours later.
