THE notorious Victoria Falls bouncer, Daniel Chidenyu, who recently appeared in court on allegations of stabbing a police officer with a broken bottle in a bar and impersonating a professional hunter at Matetsi Safari, is at it again, this time for damaging property. Chidenyu, 39, also known as Danida in nightclub circles in Bulawayo and Victoria Falls, appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani last week charged with two counts of malicious damage to property and one of disorderly behaviour.
One of the complainants Prisca Nyoni, a tenant at a Mkhosana house where Chidenyu allegedly destroyed two doors on Saturday at around 2AM, told the court that he forced her to relieve herself in a toilet with the door open as he watched. The other crime was allegedly committed on an earlier date.
“I wanted to go to the toilet to relieve myself and he told me not to close the door saying I should relieve myself while he watched,” said Nyoni.
The magistrate advised her to file a separate formal complaint of indecent assault.
On the disorderly charge, Chidenyu allegedly kicked boxes full of eggs, sweets and other items belonging to Methembe Mpofu, Thathani Nyoni and Gladys Chiposi, all vendors who were selling their wares near Chinotimba Bus Terminus.
This was after they refused to give him a cigarette on credit. He denies ever destroying the wares, worth $283, saying a certain boy stumbled on the boxes.
He admits destroying the house doors but denies ever doing it intentionally, saying: “I was going to see my wife who stays there and the property that was damaged is hers and they can’t sue me over her property”.
Prosecutors say Chidenyu went to the house on two separate occasions demanding to see his ex-wife Alice Zulu when he turned haywire after finding her not at home.
On one instance, it is said, when he went to Nyoni’s house where he found Chrispen Zulu and Nyoni, Chidenyu allegedly slept on the floor in the house.
The value of the damaged doors is $348.
The case continues on May 9 and the magistrate advised State counsel Listen Nare to amend the charges as some of the complainants are not the owners of the damaged property.
On the pending crime of assault and impersonation, Chidenyu will next appear on May 28. He is out of custody on all the charges.
