A 32-year-old Murehwa man committed suicide after his wife threatened to abort a two-month pregnancy when he disclosed he was HIV positive. Mashonaland East acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nobert Muzondo said Darron Chakanya of Kambanje Village under Chief Mangwende drank poison and his decomposing body was found in the bush.
It is alleged that on January 9 Chakanya had a misunderstanding with his wife Sthembinkosi Kudangirana (27) after he revealed to her that he had tested HIV positive.
This angered Kudangirana who threatened to abort her two-month-old pregnancy and divorce Chakanya.
On January 11 around midday Chakanya allegedly drank a chemical (name supplied) and told Kudangirana that she would never see him again before disappearing into the bush.
His body was found on January 20 by 14-year old Delbert Nyamukondiwa.
The matter was reported to the police and the body was taken to St Paul’s Musami Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
