Man kills wife, burns body

body following a domestic dispute.
Chamunorwa Nyamusanduka (39) was not asked to plead to a murder charge when he appeared before magistrate Mr Shingirirai Mutirwi.

He was remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Ms Violet Chokuda alleges that some time in January this year, Nyamusanduka dug a grave in Mhondiwa Village with the intention to get rid of his 37-year-old wife.
It is alleged that in April this year, Nyamusanduka struck his wife Precious Murewa five times on the head with a hammer after being intimate with her.

The court heard that Nyamusanduka carried her body to Mhondiwa Village, placed it on a rock and struck it four times on the head with a shovel before pouring fuel and setting it ablaze.
He allegedly buried the body in a shallow grave. Four months later, Nyamusanduka made a police report about his missing wife offering a reward of US$300 for anyone who might have information regarding her whereabouts, it is alleged.

It is further alleged that Nyamusanduka’s girlfriend reported the matter to the police after she suspected Nyamusanduka’s late wife was haunting her. This led to Nyamusanduka’s arrest.
When quizzed by the police, he allegedly confessed that his wife had become an obstacle in his intentions to marry a new wife.

The body was recovered and taken to Murehwa Hospital for post- mortem.
