A 45-YEAR-OLD Chinese national, Guo Bina, lost US$90,000 in cash, which was kept at his home along Ammedale Road, in Borrowdale.

Police said five armed robbers approached the security guards at his home, brandishing several unknown pistols.

They threatened the guards, overpowered two security personnel from WEISHENG Security Services, and tied them before forcing them to accompany the robbers into the house.

As they moved towards the main door, the robbers met one of the home owners and demanded money.

The owner complied and surrendered US$90,000, along with other valuables, including laptops and cellphones worth approximately US$10,000.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old woman from the Avenues in Harare lost US$10,400, which was hidden under her bed, after thieves broke into her home and stole cash and a laptop.

Sharon Basopo of Banbury Court, along Josiah Chinamano Avenue, left her home at around 7am, and left all windows closed and the doors locked.

She went to a hair salon at Montagu Shopping Centre and returned at around 3pm.

On arrival, she noticed the door was closed but not locked.

She then went inside and discovered that her money and a Dell laptop had been stolen.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case, urging residents to avoid keeping large sums of money at home.

“Police are investigating an unlawful entry and theft case at an apartment along Josiah Chinamano Avenue,” said Insp Chakanza.

“The total value stolen is US$10,400 and nothing has been recovered yet.

“In addition, we continue to urge members of the public to avoid luring thieves and armed robbers by keeping large volumes of money.

“We also urge people to avoid sharing information about their financial matters.”
