FASHION designers have been part of many celebrity lives and their fine art has been recognised in some countries and Zimbabwe has its own that dress the icons. One of the few is Bulawayo’s Briaton Takundwa, 33, who has been on the fashion scene since time immemorial.

He runs Figure It Out, a fashion company that specialises in houte couture and contemporary urbanwear.  Haute couture refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing. Haute couture is fashion that is constructed by hand.

Takundwa, who is a father-to-be, has been instrumental in setting up beauty pageants such as Miss Environment that has been running since 2102.

His biggest project was when he was made Elite Model Look Zimbabwe head designer in 2012.

He dressed all the models on the set.

Some of the celebrities that feature on Elite Model Look are Heidi Klum and Zimbabwe’s own Nyasha Matonodze. In an interview yesterday, Takundwa said he was working on Miss Environment whose finals would be in Bulawayo later this year.

“Preparations for Miss Environment are going well. We have everything set but we are just waiting to come up with a date. We want it to coincide with World Environment Day. If that fails we will have it in July,” he said.
