A MAN linked to a gruesome machete attack at the Long Distance Bus Terminus in Kwekwe on Saturday appeared in court facing murder charges.

Jefta Matambo (43) of Village Mutsanyamate, Chief Sayi in Gokwe appeared before Kwekwe Magistrate Mr Storey Rushambwa for killing Clement Moyo.

Moyo, who was waiting to board a bus within the bus terminus, died on the spot after Matambo and six accomplices launched an attack on him following a misunderstanding in the terminus toilet.

The accomplices are still at large.

Matambo was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 15 October.

He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The State led by Mr Vincent Chimwenje alleges that on 26 September around 4:40PM at Kwekwe’s long distance bus terminus, Matambo was drinking beer within the rank.

The accused person had a misunderstanding with Moyo while in the toilet within the bus terminus.

After the two left the toilet, the accused joined his six accomplices and they connived to deal with Moyo, who was then in the company of five family members.

The accused, armed with knives, machetes and a pool stick, charged towards Moyo and grabbed his hands from behind.

They tripped him to the ground and unleashed attacks using the knives, machetes and pool stick.

Moyo’s family members tried to rescue him but the gang attacked them as well.

Moyo, the court heard, sustained two deep cuts on his back and smaller cuts all over the body.

Moyo died on the spot from the wounds.

Matambo was arrested after police launched a manhunt.
