Man on the run after ‘raping’ niece

The man whose age was not given threatened to kill his niece if she told anyone about the sexual abuse.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese confirmed the incident yesterday    and said the reported incident occurred   on 17 December at around 3pm and  the suspect and complainant are neighbours.

“We received a report where a married man whose age was not given raped his niece on three different occasions and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone,” said Asst Insp Makonese.
She said on all the occasions the man would send the girl to fetch vegetables from his garden. He would then follow her at the garden and rape her.
“Sometime in June this year, the suspect sent the complainant to the garden to fetch vegetables and followed her before raping her once. He threatened to kill her and the girl went home and told no one.

“Sometime in December, the man again called the juvenile to his home and he again sent her to the garden. He then followed her and raped her once before threatening to stab her if she revealed the matter to anyone,” said Asst Insp Makonese.

She said the last incident happened  on 17 December and after the second  rape, the complainant reported the    abuse to the accused’s wife who is her  aunt.
Asst Insp Makonese said members of the public should treat all men as potential rapists and desist from leaving their children under their custody.
“All men are potential rapists and should never be left in the care of girls even if they are relatives,” said Asst Insp Makonese.
