A 30-year-old Bulawayo man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 13-year-old niece on two separate counts.

The man who cannot be named to protect the identity of the girl, pleaded guilty when he appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Mr Franklin Mkhwananzi last week.

He was remanded in custody to tomorrow for sentencing.

Prosecuting, Mr Nkathazo Dlodlo told the court that on 1 August the complainant woke up intending to go to the toilet to relieve herself and on her way back to her room she was grabbed by the accused and pulled to his bedroom.

The court heard that the uncle then closed the door and told his niece that he was going to have sex with her.

The girl refused to have sexual intercourse with him but he threatened to beat and chase her away from his house.

He then pushed her to his bed and raped her.

The court also heard that on the second count, the girl on 3 August around 3am went to the toilet only to find the uncle inside.

The uncle took advantage and raped the girl for the second time in the toilet.

The girl reported the matter to her relative who then reported the matter to Queenspark Police Station leading to the man’s arrest.
