A 19-year-old man has been jailed for 15 years after raping his sister as a punishment for a missing memory card.

The man, who raped his 16-year-old sister, was convicted at the Karoi Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to rape.

According to the State, it was proved that on January 26, the accused confronted his sister over a missing memory card.

When the complainant failed to provide it, her brother turned violent and started chasing her before he brutally assaulted her.

Despite her attempts to escape, the brother overpowered her sister and raped her.

After the crime, the accused threatened his sister not to disclose the case to anyone.

In  Uzumba, a 55-year-old self-proclaimed prophet appeared before Murewa Magistrates’ Court facing rape charges.

He was remanded in custody on February 17, for his trial.

The State alleges that in May 2023, the accused gave a prophecy to a fellow congregant that she would have fertility issues and she needed to follow him to his house for prayers.

The accused told the complainant that she needed to stay at his house for three days.

She complied and, on the third day, she woke up at midnight for prayers and the accuser told the complainant that she had an object in her womb and the only way to remove it was to have sexual intercourse with him.

He raped her.

The matter came to light on February 1 when the accused told the complainant a husband that her wife needed to finish prayers at his house.

She refused and told her husband that she had been raped by the accused.

A police report was made which led to his arrest.
