A MAN from Mberengwa allegedly repeatedly raped a nine-year old girl before threatening to behead her if she disclosed the matter to anyone, a court heard.
Samson Mubape, 22, of Bani Village under Chief Mapiravana in Mberengwa allegedly raped the girl on four different occasions and would each time tell her that they were now lovers.
Mubape, who pleaded not guilty, appeared before Regional Magistrate, Morgan Nemadire facing four counts of rape and was remanded in custody to today for continuation of trial.
He told the court that the complainant’s mother was lying.
“Your worship I never did such a thing. These people are just lying and they planned all of this so I can go to jail. They hate me”, said Mubape.
Prosecuting, Priscah Kanhukamwe said sometime in February last year at around 4.30PM, the complainant was on her way home from school when she met Mubape.
The court heard that Mubape ordered her to come closer to him before grabbing the girl’s hand and dragging her into the bush.
“The accused tripped her and she fell to the ground. He unzipped his trousers and lowered it to knee level before raping the girl once”, she said.
Kanhukamwe said the complainant cried for help but no one came to her rescue as the two were far from the road in a bushy area.
“Mubape told her that she was now his girlfriend and they were in love. He also told the girl he was going to behead her if she ever told anyone”, she said.
Kanhukamwe said during the same month last year, Mubape waylaid the complainant who was on her way home from school for the second time and raped her again at the same place.
She said Mubape told the girl to always walk alone as he loved her.
“The accused waylaid the complainant again when she was coming from school during the same month, and raped her for the third time. He raped her for the fourth time under similar circumstances in June of the same year,” said Kanhukamwe.
She said after raping the girl for the fourth time, Mubape told her that she would die if ever she told anyone about the incident.
“Each time after raping the girl, Mubape would tell her that they were lovers and he loved her dearly. The complainant’s mother discovered a scar on the complainant’s genitalia and asked her daughter what had happened to her. The complainant narrated how the accused had raped her on several occasions,” Kanhukamwe said.
The matter was reported to the police by the complainant’s mother leading to Mubape’s arrest.
