LURING two sisters with sweets before raping them saw a Chimanimani man appearing in court on rape charges.
Wellington Hungwe of Mahamba Village under Chief Mutambara pleaded not guilty to the rape charges when he appeared before regional magistrate Mr Livingstone Chipadza for committing the offence in 2010.
Prosecuting, Mr Malvern Musarurwa said sometime in 2010, Hungwe visited the complainants’ house because he knew they had been left home alone by their mother and grandmother who were attending a funeral.
“The two complainants attend school at Gonzoni Primary School and were in grades zero and two respectively. On the day in question, Hungwe visited their place at around 5pm and found them playing outside their kitchen hut.
“He beckoned to them saying he wanted to play with them.
“When they got to him, he tied their hands together and dragged them into the kitchen where he then raped them,” said Mr Musarurwa.
During the act, Hungwe promised the two girls sweets and biscuits if they did not scream. He went on to threaten them with death if they told anyone about the incident.
Said Mr Musarurwa: “When the girls’ mother and grandmother came back from the funeral at around 6pm, they discovered that the girls were not walking properly.
“They interrogated the girls and they revealed that Hungwe had raped them. The girls’ mother went on to examine the two girls and the semen and blood stains she found on her children’s under garments confirmed that indeed they had been raped.”
They then made a police report leading to Hungwe’s arrest. Mr Chipadza was expected to sentence Hungwe yesterday.
