Man remanded over Hatcliffe murder

A 31-YEAR-OLD man from Harare who was allegedly involved in the killing of a man in Hatcliffe suburb, appeared in court yesterday.

David Nene alias Dee or Clive was remanded in custody to February 6 when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi charged with murder.

The State intends to merge this docket with the one involving his co-accused who is already in custody.

The deceased in this case is Devoted Chimufombo (23). 

The State alleged that on December 1, 2023 at around 1am and at Hatcliffe along 9th Street and close to 1st Street, Nene chased Chimufombo who was in the company of his two girlfriends and caught him.

He assaulted him with a sharp object and a catapult all over his body resulting in Chimufombo sustaining a deep cut on the back of the knee.

Chimufombo tried to run away from Nene, but failed to do so as he was overpowered. As a result of the injury, Chimufombo bled profusely until  he died at a maize field behind house number 413, 29th Street, Hatcliffe.
