Man robs mom for kids’ upkeep

A BULAWAYO man told a court he stole his 73- year-old mother’s property worth about $250 to support his children.

Dumezweni Luphahla, 33, of Pumula South appeared before West commonage magistrate Abednico Ndebele facing a charge of theft.

He allegedly stole Rebecca Ncube’s property.

Luphahla pleaded guilty but denied having stolen goods worth $250.

“I only stole two bed covers, two blankets and three pots. I returned her hand bags.

“I was tempted to steal from her because I wanted to support my children. I will not do that again. I ask for forgiveness,” said Luphahla.

Prosecuting, Maria John said on December 5, 2015, Luphahla stole property from his mother’s house.

“He took two steam irons, pots, kitchen utensils, two blankets, two hand bags and a suitcase knowing that the property belonged to his mother,” said John.

Ncube pleaded with the court to remand Luphahla out of custody.

“If he is a good son he will realise that what he did to his mother is bad and will not commit the same offence,” said Ncube.

Ndebele remanded Luphahla out of custody to December 28, 2015.
