A 23-YEAR-OLD Gokwe man allegedly raped and robbed a 22 year old Bulawayo City Council worker.
Alpha Moyo of Fusi village under Chief Njelele appeared before West Commonage magistrate Abednico Ndebele facing charges of rape and robbery.
Ndebele remanded Moyo in custody to December 21, 2015. Moyo allegedly committed the offences with a friend who is still being hunted by police.
He allegedly raped the woman, who cannot be named for ethical reasons and robbed her of property worth $200.
He pleaded not guilty.
“I did not commit the offence. I don’t know anything,” said Moyo.
The court heard that Moyo attacked the woman who had just dropped off a commuter omnibus at Cowdray Park Sign Post, last Friday.
Prosecuting, Maria John said on December 11, 2015 at 10PM the complainant met Moyo and his friend.
Moyo allegedly grabbed the woman by neck and dragged her to a nearby bush.
The court heard he covered her mouth to stop her from screaming.
“He produced an okapi knife threatening to kill her. The two held the woman by the legs and Moyo raped her. They took her Nokia C3 cell and Samsung cell phones, $7 and two Econet lines. The property worth about $227 was not recovered,” said John.
The court heard that Moyo and his friend disappeared after a vehicle flashed lights towards the bush. Police later arrested Moyo and found him in possession of an okapi knife.
The complainant, the court heard, identified him after his arrest as the one who robbed and raped her.
The court has a doctor’s medical report which proves the woman was raped.
