Man seeks court intervention against aunt

A HARARE man has approached the Harare Civil Court seeking a protection order against his aunt.

He claims she wants to evict him from the family house after branding him an illegitimate son.

Daniel Chikaza told the court his aunt Maria Chikaza has been subjecting him to verbal and emotional abuse.

“My aunt verbally abuses me all the time. I reside at my late grandparents’ house and she wants to evict me, claiming that I am an illegitimate son.

“At one point, she said she is prepared to go to jail because of me after threatening to end my life,” said Daniel.

In her defence, Maria said:

“My nephew is lying to this court.

“I don’t have any problem with him, but his wife sees me as a threat who can evict them.

“His wife once came here to apply for a protection order against me when I went to stay in the same street with them.

“I have never tried to evict them because I actually love them.

“I only visited my mother’s house because my sister, who is suffering from cancer, stays there.”

The presiding magistrate Machingura dismissed the protection order application for lack of merit.
