A BUHERA man was found dead in his house after he allegedly sold his motor vehicle to an unknown buyer the previous day.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident, which involved Edmore Chirombe of Chikurure Primary School in Buhera.
It is alleged an unidentified man visited Chirombe’s homestead on September 9 and entered into negotiations to purchase his vehicle.
Chirombe’s domestic worker, Arnold Musamadya (26), reportedly witnessed the discussions between the two men.
“On September 9, at around 10am, an unknown person visited Edmore Chirombe’s house with the intention of buying his vehicle. Arnold Musamadya, who is a domestic worker at the homestead, saw Chirombe and the unknown person negotiating,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Police said the prospective buyer left the homestead at around noon, while Chirombe departed two hours later, driving the vehicle.
However, witnesses reported that Chirombe returned home at around 4pm on foot and without the vehicle.
“At around 12pm, the unknown person left Chirombe’s homestead. At around 2pm, Chirombe left driving his vehicle and returned at around 4pm walking on foot,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
The following morning, Musamadya made the grim discovery. He reportedly noticed that the door to Chirombe’s room was locked from the inside, with the keys hanging on the padlock.
Concerned, he peeped through a window and saw Chirombe lying motionless on his bed.
“On September 10, at around 8am, Musamadya woke up and discovered that the door to Chirombe’s room was locked from inside and the keys were hanging on the padlock. He peeped through the window and discovered Chirombe lying dead on his bed,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
The matter was reported to ZRP Buhera, whose officers attended the scene and launched investigations.
Police said no visible injuries were observed on the body during an initial examination.
“The body was inspected and no visible injuries were noted. It was subsequently taken to Murambinda Mission Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Investigations are still in progress,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
