A 21-YEAR-OLD man allegedly beat up a 15-year-old girl with a sjambok and raped her as punishment for turning down his love proposal. Citizen Ncube of Tsukuru area appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Livard Philemon facing a rape charge. Prosecuting, Mr Stanley Chinyanganya told the court that Ncube forcibly dragged the girl from her homestead into a bushy area.
“On 18 August, at about 6pm the girl was at her home in the company of her younger sisters when Ncube dragged her out of the house into a bushy area and raped her once,” said Mr Chinyanganya.
The court heard that Ncube had proposed love to the complainant on 16 August but she had turned him down after indicating that she did not love him.
“Ncube armed himself with a sjambok and in fury he chased away the girl’s two sisters after threatening to beat them up. He dragged the complainant from her home into a bushy area about 900 metres away.
“He then beat up the complainant and in the process told her that he was punishing her for turning down his love proposal and then raped her once,” he said.
The girl’s younger sisters, upon fleeing from the house, went to alert their uncle who lives nearby and with the help of neighbours pursued Ncube who had fled from the scene leaving the girl lying where he had raped her. They caught up with Ncube at his homestead and they found him in possession of the girl’s panty resulting in his arrest. He was remanded in custody to August 28.
