A 65-year-old Mberengwa woman reportedly pulled a shocker after she demanded that her ex-husband whom she left in 1980 for another man, remarry her because he was the one who broke her virginity. Mr Oliver Nyoni of Mataga in Mberengwa said he was stunned by his ex-wife, who left him and their four children. “She left me in 1980 and got married to another man. She surprised me when she decided to come back and use her virginity to force me to remarry her,” said Mr Nyoni.
“When she left me we had four children and the last born by that time was eight months old. I had to look after these children and it makes me very angry when she comes today from her failed marriage, forcing me to remarry her.”
Mr Nyoni (75) said he did not remarry after she left him as he had to take care of his children.
“I did not marry after she deserted me. I vowed to take care of my children so that they get a better life. She never gave me the reason why she was leaving but now she is giving me the reason why she wants me to remarry her. I will not remarry her,” declared Mr Nyoni, who fumed throughout the interview.
Asked whether he was the one who broke her virginity, Mr Nyoni could neither confirm nor deny this, saying the subject of breaking her virginity was not important.
Said Mr Nyoni: “Breaking her virginity or not is an issue that is of no importance. What matters most is why she is coming back to me today after all these years. If she treasured her virginity so much as she claims, she could have stayed with me. She must have lost her mind.”
Mr Moses Gumbo, a relative of the ex-wife, declined comment.
He said the issue was a family matter.
“Both families know what is taking place. Above all, this is a family matter and I will not say anything more than that,” Mr Gumbo said.
