A MAN who stole cash, a bottle of perfume and clothes from his mother has been jailed for nine months.
Pride Memba, 21, who was not represented when he appeared before magistrate Daphene Maruta where he pleaded guilty to one count of theft.
From the nine months, Maruta set aside three months on condition of good behaviour.
One month was suspended on condition he restitutes her mother, Agnes Memba, US$50.
He will serve five months.
Prosecutor Innocent Moyowaonda said a deterrent sentence should be imposed to act as a warning to other children who steal from parents as such cases were on the rise.
“The accused person is a son to the complainant. On July 5, 2025, and at 4 pm, the complainant and the accused person were both at home at 855 Mabvazuwa, Rusape.
“The accused person took an Inuka perfume 100ml bottle and US$10, which were in the complainant’s bedroom.
“He took white shoes, a red shirt, a blue jean jacket and a satchel, which were on the washing line,
and he went away unnoticed.
“The value of the stolen items is US$50 and nothing was recovered,” said Moyowaonda.
