Man steals US$200 from friend, arrested while spending loot on drinking spree

A 27-YEAR-OLD money thief has been arrested for stealing US$200 from a friend’s wallet, and going on a drinking spree.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) in a statement on X, said “Takesure Foya aged 27 appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court on theft charges.
“On the 12th of August 2024 the accused person found the complainant counting some money in her room. The complainant later placed the money. US$200, in a black wallet which she stashed under her clothes. The complainant found the accused person in her room alone on the 15th of August 2024 but this did not surprise the complainant as the accused person used to get into the complainant’s room even in her absence.
“The offence came to light the following day when the complainant heard that the accused person was on a drinking spree. The complainant proceeded to check her wallet and she noticed that it was missing. A Police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused person. Investigations led to the recovery of the black wallet. The total value stolen was US$200 and nothing was recovered.”
The accused was sentenced to 8 months in prison, but only has to serve 4 months. The rest was suspended, with conditions including paying back what was stolen and doing community service, said the NPAZ.
