HARARE Civil Court magistrate Meenal Naratom has granted a protection order to a woman who alleged that her husband threatened to burn her.
Maria Dzikite testified in court that her husband, Simbarashe Chivarira, has a history of physical and emotional abuse, including lighting the gas stove before threatening to burn her alive in their home.
“He is in the habit of assaulting me whenever l ask for money.
“He does not look after his children and last week her lit the gas threatening to burn me inside the house.
“He hits and insults me in the presence of our children.”
She further alleged that Simbarashe would brazenly call his mistress in her presence, adding to her emotional distress.
“He calls his mistress in my presence and it hurts me emotionally.”
In response, Simbarashe attempted to shift the blame, claiming that Maria was the violent one.
He also requested that the court order her to stop visiting his workplace, where she allegedly caused a scene.
“She is the one who is violent towards me and the court should order her to stop coming to my workplace causing a scene.
The protection order prohibits Simbarashe from contacting or approaching Maria.
He was also barred from entering her home or workplace or engaging in any behaviour that could be perceived as threatening or intimidating.
