Man torments wife over barrenness

A HARARE man has been tormenting his wife for failing to conceive.

Jackson Chiremba now wants his wife to leave their matrimonial home.

Lillian has since applied for a protection order against Jackson.

Magistrate Sharon Mashavire presided over their matter.

During the hearing, she said:

“We bought a residential stand together and built the house, which he is forcefully evicting me from. When I discovered that I am not bearing children, that is when he started mistreating me and chasing me away.”

She added: “I left the house and he started accusing me of staying with another man in Epworth.

“I pleaded with him to ask around, or come to the place to verify his suspicions, but he refused. He has been threatening to kill me and sell our house.

“I want him to stop abusing me and allow me to stay at our matrimonial home, peacefully.”

In response, Jackson denied the allegations.

“I have never chased her out of the house but she left on her own will,” he said.

Magistrate Mashavire dismissed the application for failure to produce evidence of abuse.

She, however, ordered Lillian to return to her matrimonial home.
